Bédar and the Surrounding Area

Bédar is a picturesque, quaint village which sits high up in the hillside overlooking the Sierra Cabrera mountain range. It looks out to Mojácar and Garrucha which are both just a 15 minute drive away, and then out to the Mediterranean sea.

Bédar itself is steeped in history of iron ore mining, which in the 19th Century, both Bédar and Serena were involved in iron ore extraction on a large scale from the surrounding mountains scattered around both villages. Although that mining industry has now disappeared, many of the families in both villages have family members who were involved in this industry and its legacy still lives on in the architecture and monuments in the village. Bédar remains typically Spanish with pretty whitewashed houses and narrow cobbled streets with beautiful Bougainvilleas scattered around the village.

Bédar

As mentioned before, Bédar's ideal proximity to Mojácar, Garrucha and only 45 minutes from Almería airport allows walkers, artists, cyclists and golfers to make the most of the beautiful countryside. Walkers flock to the area to enjoy the Del Agua walking trail.

Bédar is getting quite a reputation as an "Artists" hub, with some renowned painters and potters teaching the craft and skills to visitors and locals alike, making it a very special village indeed. We also have the benefit of some lovely restaurants including El Paso, Miramar, Bar Cortijo and then there is La Montaña which is a Restaurant located in the Mountains just a short drive from Bédar, which is truly a stunning destination restaurant. The village also has two super markets, bank, chemists, bakery and estate agent (Olive Properties ). It also has a Wednesday market for fresh fruits and vegetables.
